1. Under "File" choose"New"
2. Once you've opened a blank page, under "File" choose "Page Setup." Under "Page Setup" choose "Margins." Set each margin as "0.5." Set the "Gutter" as "0." Continuing under "Page Setup," choose "Page Size" and then select "Landscape" and press "okay."
3. Back at the document again, select "Format" and then choose "Columns." Under "Columns," choose 3. Under "Spacing," choose "0.8."
4. Put your cursor at the top of the column at the far left of your screen, and under "Insert" choose "Break" and then "Column." That will move your cursor to the next column. Repeat. That will move you to the top of the last column. Select "Insert" then "Break" and choose "Page." That should give you a layout for the other side of your tri-fold.
5. Back at the document, choose "Tools" and then "Options." Put a checkmark next to "Text Boundaries." That will let you "see" the rulers for each of your columns; they can guide you during layout but won't printout.
6. Now under "File" choose "Save" and save your work in a folder that you've created particularly for your brochure project. (To create a new folder, press the icon at the top of the table that shows a briefcase with a starburst on it. Give your new folder a name, open the folder, and save your file there)
Make a statement, pose a question, use a slogan, offer a quote.
Use a graphic grabs attention and underlines your message. It can be a picture, a logo, or "clip art." You can find graphics by searching the web using the key phrase "clip art" or by looking for "graphics" on your theme ("sports," or "students," for example.) Be sure to save your graphics in the same folder with your brochure.
Place the cursor where you want to place the graphic and choose "Insert," "Picture" and "File." Select the graphic from the file where you saved it. An empty box will appear on your document.
To edit the graphic, first right click on the box and then right click. Choose "Picture object" and "open." Choose "close" to return to the document
Be sure the name of your brochure and/or organization is visible on the cover.
