The
Division of Student Affairs is here to support Assumption’s
academic mission and to provide students with opportunities to
participate in a high quality co-curricular life. Areas that fall
within Student Affairs include Athletics, Counseling Services,
Career Services, Community Service Volunteers, Health Services,
Judicial Affairs, Multicultural Affairs, Student Activities, Recreation
Center, and Residential Life, and.
Every college has a unique campus culture
and Assumption is no exception. Students embark on their college
careers with a specific set of ideas and expectations and become
members of a learning community that is fundamentally different
from any other life experience. Students learn not only from
their professors, but acquire a set of life skills as they live
with their peers, collaborate on group projects, and form friendships
that last a lifetime. Learning is enhanced through interdisciplinary
connections and intellectual, social, and spiritual dimensions
of campus life. Assumption College’s
CALLS program (Career, Academic and Lifetime Learning Skills)
provides a personalized resource with practical information to
help students transition into a liberal arts community by helping
them work on discovering their preferred learning style, exploring
internship possibilities, creating a portfolio, and perhaps becoming
a mentor to rising first-year students.
The philosophy of educating the whole person is the hallmark of
student life at Assumption. We believe that the Assumption College
experience is more than a learning community where students exchange
tuition dollars for an education. The four-year experience of a
residential liberal arts professional studies college prepares
students to think critically, explore differing perspectives, and
analyze outcomes. We expect students to be actively engaged in
student government, campus activities, athletics and intramurals,
volunteer opportunities, and a plethora of clubs and organizations.
These experiences help instill a desire for learning that continues
throughout life. Our alumni frequently comment that the skills
they acquired through their participation in co-curricular life
have helped them to succeed in both their work environment and
civic involvement.
The College prides itself on being a caring
and compassionate community. Faculty and staff provide a consistent
presence on campus and are generous with their personal attention
to students. We want our students to succeed, and acknowledge
the complex transition from adolescence to young adulthood. I
am proud to lead a division of professional staff who are dedicated
to our students and passionate about their work as student affairs
practitioners. We are always willing to listen to students’ comments
and are eager to help them find their niche. Please do not hesitate
to contact me if you have any questions or feedback.
