Student Affairs Principles
- Assumption College is a great work environment.
Always be an ambassador for the College, both inside and outside
of work. Avoid negative comments, and when expressing workplace
concerns, whether on campus or off, do so in a constructive manner.
Be willing to give and receive constructive criticism.
- Smile. Model courtesy to everyone. Remember
to use people's names, and if you don't know their name, ask.
Avoid the use of foul language, and the temptation to speak ill
of others behind their back.
- Perform an intentional act of kindness
today. Your actions will speak more loudly than your words.
- Don't assume that all community members know
the inner workings of our department. Be willing to share and
educate.
- Be mindful that some information may be sensitive,
confidential, or inappropriate to be shared with others. Know
your audience
- When a community member comes to you with
a problem, question, or concern - address it directly, if you
can (recognizing your limits), or assist them to find appropriate
resources to resolve it.
- Never underestimate the value of your presence
to another community member. When another community member needs
to talk, give him/her your full attention. Actively listen!
- Try to appreciate and understand the perspective
of the person you are dealing with. Be aware that at any time,
there are things going on in people's lives that we are not aware
of.
- The safety and security of our community is
top priority. Know your roles during emergency situations and
be aware of all safety processes by practicing safe work habits,
immediately reporting incidents, accidents, and hazards.
- We can keep Assumption College clean and beautiful
if each of us ensures proper maintenance and repair of our facilities
and practices high standards of cleanliness.
- Introduce yourself to someone you do not know
at the College.
- Show respect to everyone associated with Assumption
College: students, staff, faculty, administrators, alumni, and
families.
- Cross a boundary; attend an event you normally
would not.
- We adhere to the belief that "if we take care
of each other, we will be able to take better care of the community."
- Show appreciation to others. If they have helped
you, thank them. If you know of a special project they have been
working on, ask about it. If they have had a success, congratulate
them. If they have experienced a setback or failure, encourage
them.
- If you are offended by a community member's
language or behavior, respectfully
and appropriately address your concern with that person.
- Practice teamwork, not just in our department
or division, but also in solidarity with the entire Assumption
College community.
- Value and acknowledge the unique gifts
your colleagues bring to our community.
- When overwhelmed, take a step back and let humor add perspective.
- Be open and responsive to God's grace on a
daily basis until
Christ be formed in you.
