I'm sorry for the lack of updates on the schedule and such. The people down at the Plourde have been working on getting us set up for times, and apparently there's a lot of other stuff going on so it's been busy and tough for them to find time for us. But I have some good news. Tentatively we are set to have classes Tuesday and Thursday from 7-9. Now they still have to confirm this, but if all goes well the first class can be on this coming Tuesday the 21st.

I hope everything does go well, and I hope this works out for as many people as possible. The only other alternative is Monday and Wednesday at 9, but I thought that might be too late. If you guys have any suggestions on what I should do for the times and whatever just send me an e-mail.

I'll make another post once I get final confirmation of the times. And I'll also send out a campuswide e-mail so more people can find out about it. I'm excited to get started, and I hope we have a great semester.

I'm back at school now and trying to get things rolling for the club. As you can see, I have uploaded the newest version of the website, I hope everyone likes it. I've added more pictures, videos, and new frequently asked questions and members pages. If you see anything wrong with the site, or have any suggestions please e-mail me and let me know.

We have a new club advisor this year, Mr. Mario Silva. He is the director of multicultural affairs here at Assumption, and I'm sure his assistance with the club will prove to be invaluable.

I talked to the people down at the Plourde about scheduling for hours, and I put down Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8 or 7-9. They have a lot of other things going on down there, so it's really up to them what they can give us. Hopefully whatever time we get will work out for everyone. When they call me back with the final schedule I will post it here and let everyone know.

Wow it's been a long time since this site has been updated. I apologize, I've been on summer break and haven't been able to update until now.

I'm in the process of upgrading to a new version of the site, it will be up and running around the time that school starts again. Keep coming back to check the site out. It will be a nice upgrade, I assure you.

I've been getting a lot of e-mails from people in the Worcester area interested in joining the club. Let me say that anyone who wants to come and try capoeira can do so. So far the school hasn't given me any trouble regarding non-Assumption students coming to the club. I won't know when the club meetings will be held until September or October, but if you're interested in coming once they start I urge you to keep checking up on this site once the school year starts.

Well that's all I have to say for now. I look forward to seeing everyone again once school starts. Come to school prepared to get back into capoeira and with an open mind about what we're going to learn. Hopefully we'll have a great year.

This website is for the Capoeira Club at Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The Capoeira Club was started in the 2002-2003 academic year as a way to spread knowledge of the Brazilian martial art around the college.

Members attend two meetings a week to practice the movements, music, and culture associated with capoeira.

Practicing capoeira benefits your body as you tone muscles and increase flexibility due to the wide range of movements. It also lets you learn how to play exotic instruments and music. And most important of all, the experience of a capoeira group allows you to meet great people, have a great time, and learn a lot of new things.

Anyone interested in joining the Capoeira Club is encouraged to contact the president,
Mike Landry (Faisca), or come to the Plourde aerobics room to attend a meeting.
