Des Resident: Dear Greyhound,
Why is it so hot in this building, I was hoping it would get better in the winter but girls who lived her before said even in the winter the heat is up too high?!!?
Greyhound: Ruff Ruff!!! Hello!
The temperature in Des Hall varies depending on what floor you live on. As you know heat rises to the top and Des Hall does not have central air conditioning. Since we are experiencing an unusually warm fall season the temperature in the building has remained at a warmer level.
Once the cooler air from the winter finally sets in, the building heat will be activated. Alumni and Des are two of the most historical buildings on campus. As a result their heating system is a lot less flexible than some of the other areas on campus. These buildings are set to a certain temperature in order to accommodate everyone in the building. It takes several hours for the building to heat up and also cool down each day. This is why some residents may have reported hot spells in the winter, because quick changes can not be made to the temperature in Des.
Please keep your RA or RD informed about your concerns with the temperature of the building throughout the year. If a high volume of residents feel the same, then your RD can request that the college adjust the building temperature a few degrees. However, remember these changes will not be felt immediately.
