WHAT TO DO IF YOU ARE RAPED
GET TO A SAFE PLACE
This is not the time to be alone. At the very least, you need
emotional support. If there is no one to go to, then call
someone you can talk to, no matter how late it is.
DO NOT BATHE, SHOWER, DOUCHE, OR CHANGE YOUR CLOTHING
GET MEDICAL ATTENTION
IMMEDIATELY
Go to a hospital, college health services, or private physician
for a medical examination, treatment of possible injuries,
sexually transmitted diseases, and for possible pregnancy
testing. If you decide to press charges, physical specimens
collected soon after the rape will be valuable evidence.
CALL POLICE / PUBLIC
SAFETYAND / OR OTHER COLLEGE OFFICIALS
Reporting as soon as possible will strengthen your case if
you decide to file charges. You can make that decision later.
Contacting the Police/Public Safety does NOT mean the case
has to go to trial. They can assist you with getting medical
attention and counseling. These services are CONFIDENTIAL.
DO NOT BLAME YOURSELF
REMEMBER – You are the victim of a crime. Do not be
afraid to reach out for assistance and support.
