Applicants for the Program:
It is required that students entering this program have a baccalaureate degree and at least fifteen semester hours of undergraduate course work in the behavioral and social sciences. Recommended courses include a) human anatomy and physiology, abnormal psychology, the psychology of human development and statistics. A 2.75 overall undergraduate cumulative grade point average is required, as well as evidence of competencies as presented in letters of recommendation. In addition, all applicants will submit a writing sample and participate in an interview process. Recommendations by the department for admission will be based on academic record, letters of recommendation, and the results of the interview process. Interested Students from culturally diverse backgrounds and those with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Applicants accepted for the full-time program are encouraged to begin in the fall semester. Applicants for part-time program at our campus in Worcester, or satellite programs in Taunton, MA or Providence, RI can begin the program thought out the year.
Conditional Acceptance
In those cases where the applicant does not meet the requirement of 2.75 overall undergraduate cum, the following applies:
For those applicants with a 2.5 to 2.74 overall undergraduate cum, acceptance may be given conditionally if other admissions criteria are met. For part-time students, the department will review the student's work at the completion of 4 courses and will make recommendations regarding the removal of the conditional status. For full-time students, such review will also occur after the completion of 4 courses. (Based on graduate policy as of this date, conditional status may be removed if the student achieves a grade of B or better in each of the courses taken).
Application Information
All documents, transcripts and other papers submitted for the admittance become property of the College and will not be returned. · Courses taken by correspondence will not satisfy prerequisite requirements. · A student is not officially admitted or rejected until the Director of Graduate Enrollment has notified him/her. Applicants are notified of their status in writing. · The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires that health science students must be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus and Hepatitis B. · Admittance as Special Student to course work in the graduate program does not imply admittance to candidacy for an Advanced degree. The dean of the College reserves the right not to grant credit toward a degree for courses taken before admittance into the program. · After official notification of acceptance, application and transcripts are kept on file for one year. If the candidate has not matriculated buy the end of the year, he or she ordinarily reapplies and is subject to the rules and regulations that are in effect at the time of the new application. · Incomplete dossiers are kept on file no longer than one year.
Financial Aid
A limited number of traineeships are available. To be eligible, one must be formally and unconditionally accepted into the full-time two-year graduate program in Rehabilitation Counseling. Special consideration will be given to applicants from minority groups and persons with disabilities, in addition to those who have identified clear interest in working in rehabilitation agencies and/or in educational settings serving individuals with disabilities facilitating the transition from school to community and the world of work. Scholarships, trainee ships, stipends, and/or assistantships will be offered to qualifying applicants who the department determines are the strongest candidates for admission. It is important to note that because of the demands of the full-time program, it is not possible to be employed full-time concurrent with the program. Part-time employment is feasible if the hours are flexible.
Most Assumption Accounting majors have accepted full-time positions by December of their senior year.
