Assumption College Receives Yarock Award
May 8, 2003
Worcester, MAThe Worcester Institute for Senior Education (W.I.S.E) Program
at Assumption College recently received the Seventh Annual Irving J. Yarock
Award. The award was presented by the Age Center of Worcester Area, Inc. Board
of Directors at a dinner on April 30, 2003.
The Yarock Award honors exceptional community leadership in support of elders
and their families. It was established in 1996 by the Age Center to honor the
achievements of Irving J. Yarock, whose outstanding efforts as a volunteer for
numerous organizations in Worcester has made life better for hundreds of people
of all ages.
In its tenth year, W.I.S.E. is a Learning in Retirement Institute open to senior
citizens in Central Massachusetts. Its 475 members, who are both students and
teachers, run the program. Unlike other college courses for seniors, W.I.S.E.,
members create their own courses. This year there were 60 to choose from reflecting
a wide range of interests.
