Assumption College to Host Three-Day Teach-In on Peace and War


January 24, 2003--- The Sociology and Anthropology department will be hosting a three-day teach-in entitled “Waging Peace: Perspectives on Peace and War,” from February 10-12, 2003. Below is the schedule for each day.

February 10--- Noted author and “Boston Globe” columnist James Carroll will kick-off the Teach-In with a lecture called “The Urgent Legacy of Peace,” at 7:00 p.m. in the Hagan Campus Center Hall. Mr. Carroll will discuss his views on the problems facing society today in terms of Peace and War. Mr. Carroll is the author of several books, including “An American Requiem” and “Constantine’s Sword: The Church and Jews.” He is also the keynote speaker for the three-day Teach-In.

February 11---The second event of the teach-in is a panel discussion called “Religious Perspectives on Peace and War,” at 3:30 p.m. in the Salon of La Maison Francaise.
Representatives of Catholicism, Quaker, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and Native Americans will speak about their perspectives on peace and war.

February 12--- The final installment of the teach-in is a Non-Violence Workshop that will be offered at 3:30 p.m. in the Salon of La Maison Francaise. Scott Schaeffer-Duffy, a noted Worcester peace activist will lead the workshop, which will offer participants a better understanding of ways society can avoid violence and focus on peace.
