Assumption Receives Federal Support for New Science Center
February 14, 2003Assumption College recently received word that it has
been approved for $235,000 in congressionally-authorized grants to support the
new $18 million Science Center.
In a joint press release from Sens. Edward M. Kennedy and John
F. Kerry, and Rep. James P. McGovern, the College's awards were included in
the recently passed FY'03 federal appropriations bills. This award brings the
total to $1,925,000 in federal funds appropriated for the new Science Center.
"We are indeed grateful to Sens. Kennedy and Kerry and Congressman McGovern
for their continuing assistance with this project. Their ongoing support has
helped us leverage additional dollars and bring this new Science Center to fruition,"
commented President Tom Plough. "Our federal delegation fully understands
and supports the importance of quality science education to the welfare of this
Commonwealth and we greatly appreciate their confidence in our faculty and staff
to provide just that to our students."
The Science Center will open this fall.
