December,
2004—Assumption College graduate students David Zbikowski
and Sarah Williams recently received the UnumProvident Charles E.Soule
Scholarship in Rehabilitation Counseling for the 2004-2005 school
year.
David Zbikowski received an undergraduate degree in Social and Rehabilitation
Services from Assumption in 2004. While an undergraduate, he was
admitted into the Six-in-Five master's program in Rehabilitation
Counseling, beginning his graduate work in the second semester of
his senior year. He is expected to receive his master's degree in
May 2005. Zbikowski received outstanding recommendations on behalf
of his application for the scholarship that attested to his academic
achievements, volunteer activities, and interest in the field of
rehabilitation counseling.
Sarah Williams graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth
in 2003 and is currently a second-year student in the Rehabilitation
Counseling master's program. She was awarded the Soule Scholarship
for the 2003-2004 academic year, and based on her continued excellent
academic record, she was also awarded the scholarship for the 2004-2005
academic year. In addition to her academics, Williams is active
in community service and volunteer work.
UnumProvident, a Tennessee-based insurance agency with a corporate
office in Worcester, MA, formed after the mergers of Paul Revere,
Unum and Provident Companies. In 2002, the company endowed the scholarship,
named after its longtime president Charles E. Soule who retired
in 1997. The scholarship serves as a tribute to Soule’s many
contributions to the disability industry. This merit-based award
is the first privately funded scholarship available to full-time
students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling
program at Assumption.
