Institute Program: "Why Study Rousseau's 'Second Discourse'?"

2004—Assumption College's Ecumenical Institute presents
a symposium on Jean-Jacques
Rousseau's "Discourse on the Origins of Inequality Among Men"on
Tuesday, October 26, 2004 in the Salon of La Maison Française.
This symposium is being held in recognition of the 250th anniversary
of the publication of Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s Second Discourse.
At 3:30 p.m., three prominent scholars on Rousseau will address
the question, "Why Study Rousseau's 'Second Discourse'?"
Later, at 7:00 p.m., a roundtable will continue the discussion among
panel and audience members.
The invited speakers are Professor Victor Gourevitch of Wesleyan
University, Professor Christopher Kelly of Boston College, and Professor
Richard Velkley of Catholic University.
