Assumption College d'Alzon Chair to Lecture on Sociobiology
November, 2003-
Assumption College will be holding a lecture entitled “The Challenge of
Sociobiology” by Dr. Warren Murray, d’Alzon Chair in Philosophy.
The lecture will be held on November 19, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. in the Salon of La
Maison Francaise.
Murray’s lecture will address the controversies that have surrounded the
field of sociobiology since the 1975 publication of Edward O. Wilson’s
Sociobiology: The New Synthesis. Sociobiology is considered to be a branch of
ethology from its foundations of the principles of neo-Darwinian evolutionary
theory. However, it owes much to studies in population biology and genetics.
The lecture will attempt to explore some of the many facets of this field.
This lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact
the Office of Public Affairs at (508) 767-7160.
