| Celebration
of Mallet Collection Arrival
October,
2004—Assumption College will celebrate the arrival
of the Mallet Collection on October 13, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. on the
first floor of the Emmanuel d'Alzon Library.
In March 2004, Assumption College acquired the Mallet Library
from L'Union de St. Jean-Baptiste d'Amerique. The Mallet Library
collection consists of 6,000 volumes of books, research studies,
and other materials about the French in North America, and includes
a large number of books relating to Native Americans as well. The
collection was gathered by Civil War officer Major Edmond Mallet
(1842-1907).This collection is on permanent loan from L'Union de
St. Jean-Baptiste .
The program
will include remarks from Ms. Louise Champigny, director of New
England Operations for Catholic Family Life/Union St.Jean-Baptiste,
and Dr. Claire Quintal, former director of Assumption College's
French Institute and professor emerita of Foreign Languages.
