College to Celebrate Founders' Day; 100th Anniversary of the First
Day of Classes
September,
2004—As part of its Centennial celebration, Assumption
College will celebrate Founders' Day, the 100th anniversary of the
first day of classes in 1904, on Friday, October 1, 2004. This event
is open to students; faculty, staff, and administration (and their
families); and alumni.
The schedule
of Founders' Day activities is as follows:
5:00 p.m. A Mass will be held in the Chapel of
the Holy Spirit. During this time, the Augustinians of the Assumption
will award a d’Alzon Medal to Francis P. Gurley, the College's
Executive Vice President/Treasurer. The d’Alzon Medal recognizes
people who have outstandingly exemplified in their lives the vision
and guiding principles of the Assumptionist Founder.
5:30 p.m. A Founders’ Day Feast will take
place on the Hagan Campus Center Lawn. Come sample various foods,
including some delicious French pastries. Entertainment will be
provided by John Rush, soloist. Roving artist Magic of Wade, and
balloonist Flash in the Pan, will also be on hand to entertain the
kids.
7:30 p.m. Fireworks will light up the sky over
the Athletic fields. Grab a blanket and join your friends on the
football field for this fantastic display. The public is welcome
to view the fireworks.
10:00 p.m. As part of the Late Night Charlie's
events, the a cappella group Five O’Clock Shadow will perform
in the Charlie's section of the Hagan Campus Center.
