| "A
Day At The Park"; Centennial Fairmount Park Clean-Up
September,
2004—As part of its ongoing Centennial festivities,
Assumption College, along with the Poet Hill Neighborhood Association
and the City of Worcester, will be helping to clean up Worcester’s
Fairmount Park on October 2, 2004 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Last year, Assumption College donated $40,000 in the form of a new
playground to the city of Worcester, as part of its 18-month Centennial
celebration. With the help of volunteers from the College and the
City of Worcester, Fairmount Park was constructed to the delight
of the neighborhood children. Assumption volunteers hope to return
annually for clean-up and simple upkeep. Some of the jobs they may
be completing that day include repairs, spreading mulch, planting
shrubs or bulbs, picking up trash, and any other necessary maintenance
projects.
In addition to the clean-up duties, volunteers will bring games
such as Wiffle Ball, Frisbee, and sack races for the neighborhood
children when the work is complete. They will also bring paper,
crayons and pencils to encourage the children to write poetry that
will be published in the Poet Hill Neighborhood Newsletter.
Anyone associated with Assumption College is welcome to volunteer.
Light refreshments will be provided at the event. The rain date
will be October 3, 2004 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
