Assumption Calendar of Events

Beck Institute Lecture: "Developments in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy For Anger and Social Skills Problems"

November, 2004—Assumption College's Aaron T. Beck Institute for Cognitive Studies presents "Developments in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy For Anger and Social Skills Problems," a workshop with Mary Ann Mariani, Ph.D., on November 19, 2004 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Salon of La Maison Française.

The focus of this workshop will be "Skillstreaming," an effective, easy-to-learn program. Participants will learn the rationale for social skills training in school settings (preschool to high school) and strategies that are effective for children with specific disabilities. The workshop will include demonstrations and sample interventions. Information on training other professionals will be provided. This workshop is appropriate for educators, special educators, mental health counselors, school counselors, and social workers.

Mary Ann Mariani, Ph.D. is the director of the School Counseling Program at Assumption College's Graduate School. She also teaches in the Special Education program at Assumption. She has a private practice in assessment and consultation for children with learning or attention problems in Southboro, MA. Dr. Mariani has extensive experience in training professionals at the graduate level, as well as conducting numerous workshops for professionals in New England. A licensed psychologist and school psychologist, Mariani received her Ph.D. from Boston College.

Assumption College is recognized by the National Board of Certified Counselors to offer continuing education for National Certified Counselors. Application has also been made to the MA Chapter of NASW for Continuing Education units.
