$1.6 million Renovation of Kennedy Hall complete
Worcester, MA—Assumption College announced that the first phase of renovations
on the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Memorial Hall (formerly the Kennedy Science Center)
is now complete. This summer has seen Kennedy Hall undergo a $1.6 million renovation
that consisted of removing all laboratories, painting, carpeting, and construction
of new partition walls within the building. The building received a new roof,
a handicap accessible bathroom, new furniture, and ductwork for future air conditioning.
In spring 2004, the second phase of renovations will begin. During phase two,
classrooms will be refurbished to include tiered classrooms, the air conditioning
will be completed, an elevator will be installed, and new windows will be added.
The Phase 1 renovations will allow the Departments of Education and Psychology
to have defined spaces with offices, seminar and resource rooms on the first
floor. The sociology department will occupy the second floor, along with additional
office space for Psychology. The relocation of the education department will
allow for Alumni Hall (the previous home of education) to accommodate an extra
19 first-year students.
