Sample of Research

Crowley, D.J., research program has focused on elucidating mechanisms and regulation of DNA repair and DNA damage tolerance in the extremely halophilic archaeon, Halobacterium sp. NRC-1 and the moderately halophilic Haloferax volcanii. Projects of ongoing interest include modification and optimization of assay systems to study transcription-coupled repair of ultraviolet light-induced DNA lesions in Halobacterium sp. NRC-1. Also targeted knockouts of putative repair genes in Halobacterium for purposes of functional characterization. Twenty-five undergraduate students have participated in this research at Assumption College and Mercer University. Recent collaborators have included Dr. Shirley McCready at Oxford-Brookes University, Oxford, UK and Dr. Justin Courcelle at Portland State University, Portland, OR.

[Photo information: Upload the photo, choose "Right" for the placement. Add the Faculty Member's name first-last and then their title. Other photo details can be left blank in the photo uploader. After placing, click on the photo and click on the "Edit Image" button that hovers on the top left of the photo. Click those and then resize to something appropriate. Generally, you just don't want giant photos.. 60% is usually good, but use your judgement. The photo should not encroach on the content and it should not be longer than the content on the page]

[Category: The category option on the right side of the Admin panel should be ticked off for the department that they are in. Tom Brady is in "Sample," but History prof's should be in "History." This will add them automatically to the global list.]

[When finished: When all information has been added, click the "Publish" button on the right. If a Faculty profile has to be removed, the best way is to put it into "Draft" status which is in the same area of the Admin menu. This way, we can remove a faculty member without deleting them from the backend system]
