Our Nation's Leaders

Because of Major Mallet’s interest in politics and the military, the Mallet Collection includes a number of biographies of early presidents, statesmen, and soldiers, as well as collections of presidents’ official papers and writings. But in addition to highlighting these men of distinction, we also wish to highlight women of distinction—famous first ladies and not-so-famous women soldiers. The etchings and engravings in these older volumes are exquisite, and some are reproduced from the work of such well known photographers as Matthew Brady.

The images in this section are divided into the following categories:

Soldiers

Presidents and Statesmen

First Ladies
