9. What if I am able to authenticate using my last name and barcode but I still cannot access one or more databases or I have problems accessing a specific article within a database?
Can
I just click on "Databases/Indexes" from the Library home
page?
Yes,
that method will work from off campus. Once you choose a database
from the list you will be prompted for your last name (enter your last name only in lower case) and barcode number (for Undergrads, Staff, and Faculty) or student ID (CE and Graduate Students). If your last name is two words, try variations of your last name in the user name box. The only way to know how your last name is entered in our system is to call the Circulation Desk (508-767-7135) and have someone look it up.
Remember, Grads and CE students log on from off-campus using their Student ID number, not the barcode number. This is the 5-digit number underneath their name on their ID card.
Once authenticated you will be able to move freely between
databases. If you decide to close the session and come back to it,
you will have to reauthenticate.
If you have trouble accessing
a database, please contact the Circulation Department at 508-767-7135
or email us at library@assumption.edu.
What is "Off Campus
Access Patron Authentication"?
The
Emmanuel d'Alzon Library has implemented a system (EZproxy)
to allow members of Assumption College religious community, currently
registered students, current employees and trustees, with a valid
library ID to access licensed resources from off campus.
Faculty and staff don't have ID numbers so they should log on with barcode numbers. All students are assigned a student ID number, which is found on their ID and in their patron record (called "Institutional ID"). If you have trouble accessing
a database, please contact the Circulation Department at 508-767-7135
or email us at library@assumption.edu.
I
have registered with Assumption College, but my barcode does not
allow access, why not?
Assumption
College registration does not automatically enter you into our library
database. You will need to stop by the library to be entered into
our library database; or, call the Circulation Department at (508)
767-7135.
I
take courses at an off campus location. Do I have to travel to the
library to be entered into the library patron database?
No.
You may call the Reference Department at (508)
767-7273 or e-mail us at
for more information on how to use off campus access if you do not
have an Assumption College ID.
I
have an Assumption ID, but no barcode numbers are printed on it.
Can I still access Library databases from off campus?
Yes.
Call the Circulation Department at (508) 767-7135
to obtain the barcode number. At your earliest convenience,
it is best to stop at Public Safety on campus to obtain a new ID.
Do
I have to pay for a new ID?
If
you turn in an old ID that does not have a barcode number printed,
there is no charge for a new ID. Please keep in mind your new ID
will have a different barcode that will need to be entered into
our library database. You will still have to contact the library
to update your new card with the new number.
NOTE: Any changes within the library
database will take 24 hours to become effective.
When
can I access library databases from off campus?
Databases
are available 24/7 to current Assumption faculty, staff, students
and members of the Assumption College religious community.
Can
all Library databases be accessed from off campus?
Almost all of our databases are available from off campus. There is one exception. It is STN and it has restricted access for authorized users. Contact a reference librarian or chemistry faculty for access to this database.
