What is the schedule?

Are tickets needed for any of the events scheduled?

Tickets are required only for the Baccalaureate Soirée.

 

How do I obtain Announcements/Invitations?

The announcements are not tickets, but a formal written announcement of your impending graduation that you can share with family and friends. Each graduating student will receive five (5) official Assumption College Commencement Announcements. To receive your announcement cards, please contact the Registrar's office.

 

Tickets are not needed for Commencement Exercises.

 

How long does the Commencement Ceremony last?
The length of the ceremony is approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours.

 

What is Baccalaureate Mass?
This religious celebration is open to all seniors, their families and their guests. There is no limit to the number of people who may attend and no tickets are required. 

The Mass will be celebrated at The Cathedral of St. Paul, 38 High Street (at the corner of High Street and Chatham Street) downtown Worcester. 

Mass will last about one hour.

 

What are the directions to The Cathedral of St. Paul (site of the Baccalaureate Mass) from Assumption College?
Leaving the Assumption College campus, take a left onto Salisbury Street. At the second set of traffic lights, take a right onto Lancaster Street (Trinity Lutheran Church is on the right). At the 6th traffic light, take a left onto Austin Street. Take your first left onto High Street. The Cathedral of St. Paul’s is ahead on the right.


The Cathedral is handicapped accessible. Parking is at a premium, although there are parking lots and garages in the vicinity. Please allow yourself ample time to find parking.

 

Please see the attached map for available parking locations adjacent to the Cathedral of St. Paul.   Please do not park in any lots that are shown as “No Parking” on this map, cars will be towed from private lots.

What is the Baccalaureate Soirée?

7:00 pm - 11:00 pm [doors open at 7:00 pm; entertainment at 8:00 pm]

The Baccalaureate Soirée will feature a live performance by Stardust, known throughout the United States as Boston's "Super Band."  Their set will span music from the 1940s through today.

A variety of desserts and coffee will be served and a cash bar for beer and wine will be available.

This is a ticketed event.  Tickets are available for purchase by students, family and friends.  The cost is $15 per person (ticket must be purchased for the student as well).  There is no limit to the number of tickets that can be purchased. Click here for the order form.

Need more information about Commencement Exercises and Reception?
The academic procession will begin promptly at 9:40 a.m. from the Plourde Recreation Center. Commencement Exercises begin at 10:00 a.m. at H.L. Rocheleau Athletic Field (under a tent on the baseball field, which is adjacent to the Multi-Sport Stadium).   There is no limit to the number of people who may attend Commencement Exercises and no tickets are required. For those who would rather view the ceremony from a climate-controlled environment, guests are invited to the Hagan Campus Center to watch the graduation on a closed circuit broadcast.

A dessert reception for graduates, families and friends will be held in the Plourde Recreation Center immediately following the Ceremony.  Tickets not required.


Graduate Commencement Reception
A reception for all graduate students, their families and their guests. For more information, please contact the Graduate Studies office at at 508-767-7387 or graduate@assumption.edu

All graduate students, their families, and their guests are invited to this commencement celebration.  A formal invitation will be mailed in April.  Please RSVP to graduate@assumption.edu with number attending.

 

Continuing Education Reception
A reception for all continuing education graduates and faculty. For more information, please contact Dennis Braun, Director of Continuing & Career Education, at 508-767-7541 or dbraun@assumption.edu.


How do graduates obtain academic regalia attire (cap and gown)?
If you are a candidate for graduation, and have been financially and academically cleared to graduate, you may pick up your cap and gown at the Assumption College Bookstore the week prior to commencement. To insure that we have the correct size for you, you may order your regalia online through the following link: Assumption College student cap and gown order form. If you have questions regarding your academic regalia, please contact the Assumption College Bookstore at 508-767-7249.

 

Is there a Graduation Audit Fee?
A fee is required only for Graduate Degree and Continuing Education Degree recipients. The $100 fee must be paid regardless of their attendance at Commencement and prior to the Registrar issuing diplomas.Undergraduates are billed the $100 graduation fee in the fall of their final year.

 

Will families receive more information?
Throughout the year Seniors will receive the most up-to-date, detailed information about Commencement via class mailings and e-mail messages. In early Fall, all parents should have received a general postcard informing them of the date of Commencement and directing them to this website.

In late March, parents of all graduating seniors will receive a packet with official Commencement information. Families of Graduate Studies students can check the Graduate Studies tab of this website for further updates.

 

Is there a Commencement Photographer?
Assumption College has contracted with Commencement Photos, Inc., to take close-up photos of each individual student as he/she receives his/her diploma. There will be two different photography shots taken of each student during the ceremony; one as they receive their diploma (action shot) and one as they exit the stage with diploma in hand (posed shot).

Parents, family, and friends will be allowed to take pictures only from designated spots along the sides of the tent.

Commencement Photos, Inc., will contact each student at his/her home address regarding the ordering and purchasing of the photos. If you have questions or need additional information, contact Commencement Photos directly at 978-851-5924 or e-mail jack@commencementphotos.com.

Commencement Video
Assumption College has contracted Collins Video Services of Fitchburg to videotape the Commencement Exercises. The company will contact each student at his/her home address regarding placing an order for the video. It will also be possible to order a copy of the video on the day of Commencement.

Accommodations on Campus

How can I find a local hotel and restaurant?

Assumption College has reserved a block of rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn and the Marriott Courtyard Worcester from Friday, May 10, 2013 to Sunday, May 13, 2013. Please contact the hotels directly for room information and reservations. If you use the links provided above, they will take you to reservation pages with the Assumption group information pre-filled.

 

Where are Commencement Exercises held if it rains?
Commencement Exercises are held rain or shine, under the tent at the H.L. Rocheleau Athletic Field. The temperature under the tent is sometimes much cooler than the temperature outside. We recommend bringing a blanket and jacket, especially if there are older guests in your party.

For those who would rather view the ceremony from a climate-controlled environment, guests are invited to the Hagan Campus Center to watch the ceremony on a closed circuit broadcast.

 

Tickets are not required for admission to commencement exercises, whether viewed under the tent or at Hagan Campus Center.

What time will Commencement Exercises end?
Commencement Exercises are expected to run about 2 to 2 1/2 hours, ending approximately at 12:15 p.m.

We are going out to dinner afterwards. What time should I make a reservation?
If you are planning to have lunch at an area restaurant, you may want to plan for a 1:30 pm. or 2:00 p.m. arrival.

When should guests plan to arrive?

The ceremony, held under a tent, will be open for first come, first served seating at 8:00 a.m. The Commencement Ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. at H.L. Rocheleau Athletic Field.

The academic procession will begin at 9:40 a.m. from the Plourde Recreation Center.

 

Where do I park?
Campus parking will be at a premium on the day of Commencement. We suggest that you arrive early. Parking is also available at St. Mary's of the Assumption Albanian Church, just past the entrance to the College, on the left.  Shuttle services will be provided, to-and-from this parking lot.  If you have handicapped family members attending, please see the following information below under the headings “Special Needs Arrangements” and “Where is handicapped parking located?”

Where are the restrooms located?
Before Commencement Exercises, restroom facilities are available in the Hagan Campus Center.

What are the Special Needs Arrangements?
For arrangement of handicapped parking, and all other special needs arrangements, please contact Liz Vestal, director of special events at 508-767-7026 or evestal@assumption.edu.

 

Where is handicapped parking located on campus?
Those with state-issued disability plates or placards will be allowed to park as close to the Commencement Exercises tent at H.L. Rocheleau Athletic Field as space allows. Please display your handicapped placard where a Public Safety Officer will see it. We recommend arriving early for the best parking.

If there is no parking available close to the tent, Public Safety will allow you to drop off passengers with disabilities near the tent, before finding a parking place elsewhere on campus. If you have any questions about handicapped parking, please contact Liz Vestal, director of special events at 508-767-7026 or evestal@assumption.edu.

Is handicapped seating available at Commencement?
There is limited handicapped seating available for those guests in wheelchairs. Unfortunately, because of the limited amount of space available, we can not provide handicapped seating for a whole family. If you, or a member of your family, need handicapped seating, you must contact Liz Vestal, director of special events at 508-767-7026 or evestal@assumption.edu for a reserved seating pass.

Will there be Sign Language interpreter at Commencement?
Assumption College will try to honor requests we receive for an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to be at the Commencement Exercises. We encourage anyone who is in need of interpreting services to please contact Liz Vestal, director of special events, at 508-767-7026 or evestal@assumption.edu.

 

Where can I buy refreshments and snacks?
From 7:30 to 11:00 a.m., refreshments and snacks such as coffee, juice, water, muffins, and other breakfast pastries will be sold at "Charlie's," located in the Hagan Campus Center. Cold beverages and light snacks are also available at the Bookstore from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

 

Where can I buy Assumption College gifts and souvenirs?
The Assumption College Bookstore will be open the day of Commencement from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Bookstore has a variety of Assumption memorabilia for sale including apparel, glassware, and even diploma frames. College chairs are also available, but must be ordered in advance. For more information, please contact the Bookstore directly at 508-767-7249, or go to: http://www.assumption.edu/bookstore.

Flower bouquets, ranging in price from $15.00 to $30.00, will be sold before commencement, next to the tent.  Proceeds benefit the Elise M. Doyle Book Fund.  A half dozen long stem roses start at $15.00, a dozen long stem for $25.00, and open face graduation bouquets for $30.00.

When must I move out of my residence hall?

Students are expected to move out of campus housing by 6:00 pm on Saturday, May 11, 2013. Staff will be available in each area until then, or students can utilize the express checkout system. All trash must be removed, and all carpeting, floors, appliances, and fixtures should be cleaned to the best of your ability. If you have any additional questions, please contact Residential Life at ext. 7505.
