Every three years, members of the Assumption College Chapel Choir have the chance to perform in Stephen Schwartz’s Broadway smash-hit musical: GODSPELL.
One of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time, GODSPELL is based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew. In the Gospel, Jesus Christ preaches through parables and storytelling. The show, which is not built on a traditional plot, utilizes clowning, pantomime, charades, acrobatics, and vaudeville to tell the story of Christ. A pageant that moves from moment to moment, Godspell is a reflection on the life of Jesus.
Featuring a sparkling, seminal score by Stephen Schwartz, GODSPELL boasts a string of recognizable songs, led by the international hit, “Day By Day.” As the cast of actor/clowns makes it way through “Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord,” “Save The People,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “Bless The Lord,” “All For The Best,” “All Good Gifts,” “Turn Back, O Man” and “By My Side,” we, as audience members get to see the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life.
The last production in March 2004 was before three sold-out audiences in the college’s Chapel of the Holy Spirit. The next production will be in March 2007.
Auditions are held ONLY for those interested in lead roles. The ensemble is comprised of Choir members who have made a commitment to the Chapel Choir for the entire academic year. Auditions will be held in September 2006.
Rehearsals will be held twice a week outside of the regularly scheduled Chapel Choir rehearsals and liturgies.
The production is directed/music directed by Ms. Jane Shivick, Choir Director and accompanied by Dr. Frank Corbin, keyboard, Mr. Al Vaudreuil, guitar, Mr. Rick Cain, bass guitar, and Mr. Bill MacGillivray, percussion.
