The Assumption College Chapel Choir is the liturgical choir of the college drawn from all areas of the undergraduate and graduate student body who possess many levels of musical talent. The Choir regularly ministers at the 7PM student mass in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. In addition, the Choir provides music for other liturgical celebrations at the college, such as the the Mass of the Holy Spirit, Advent Service of Lessons and Carols, the Service of Christian Unity, and the Baccalaureate Mass.
The Chapel Choir also undertakes special projects and performances such as a fully staged production of Stephen Schwartz’s Broadway musical Godspell, Choir Tours to various North American cities (most recently New York and Washington, D.C.) and beyond (Rome in 2012), and has so far released two compact disc recordings: Rejoice and Be Glad -The Assumption College Chapel Choir Sings Songs of the Spirit (2005), and Gathered As One (2009). The Chapel Choir is under the direction of Lei (Ray) Yu, Associate Director of Music Ministry and is accompanied by Dr. Frank Corbin, Director of Music Ministry. Several members take part in the Student Cantor Program. These students train in pairs and trios to cantor portions of the 7pm Mass such as the Responsorial Psalm, Gospel Acclamation, and Communion Procession. Those with more advanced musical skills, vocal abilities, and experience cantor for the 10am Mass on an ocassional basis.
The Chapel Choir rehearses in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit every Thursday evening at 7PM. No audition or prior choral experience is necessary. Education in excellent vocal and musical skills are taught and maintained.
