Blackboard Browser Check

The information below will let you know if you are ready to use Blackboard. Blackboard requires that you have a newer browser, javascript and cookies turned on. Take a minute to check your browser by clicking on the buttons below.

What are cookies?

  • If it is enabled, a message box will appear that says "You have cookies enabled and can properly use this web site!"
  • If it is not enabled, a message box will appear that says "Cookies ARE NOT currently enabled! Please read below on this page for information on how to enable cookies." To use this site properly, you will need to enable cookies on your browser.
  • How do I enable cookies?
    • Note: Java Scripting must be enabled to use the Cookie Test.

The Virtual Classroom (chat) in Blackboard requires JAVA to run

How old is your Browser?

Older Browsers may not work well with Blackboard.

If your Internet Explorer software is older than version 6.0, you will need to run the free updater at the link below.
Internet Explorer for Macintosh is not supported for use with Blackboard.

Safari needs to be version 2 or newer. Most features of Blackboard are compatible with Safari. If you are using an older version of Safari you need to run the free update at the following link:

Mozilla Firefox 3.0 (Windows and Mac) – compatible with Blackboard for both Windows and Mac computers.

AOL – The AOL and MSN browsers are not compatible with Blackboard and is not supported by the HUB/HelpDesk.  This does not mean that AOL or MSN cannot be used as the Internet Service Provider; rather, a different web browser should be used once you are connected to the Internet.

Check with your instructor to find out if you will need plugins like Acrobat, Quicktime, PowerPoint Viewer, Word Viewer, Flash Player, Java, Shockwave Player, Real Player, or Windows Media Player.
