Blog Entry:
My internship at the WBJ has afforded me many opportunities that are of interest to me and validate what I have learned at Assumption College. I have found that coming up with my own topics to cover and researching/writing the articles is my work.
I recently wrote an article on body language in the workplace. I had been learning in my Interpersonal Communications class about nonverbal communication and its substantial impact on social situations. I took this idea to my editor and wrote an article with guidelines about body language in the workplace. In doing so, I learned that by taking the initiative and pushing for what you want, you can end up doing work that you enjoy and have a positive effect on the company in the process.
I have also been able to apply managerial concepts learned in my internship class to my internship. I have been able to evaluate the workplace on both macro and micro levels, and consequently place myself in a more valuable position to the company. This has been a very eye-opening experience for me as I have applied what I have learned in the classroom to the ever-changing business environment where I hope to someday soon be successful.
