Primary Responsibilities:
As an intern in Public Affairs, I am assigned to promote the spring production of Assumption’s theatre program, “Children of Eden”. My tasks include: press releases, meeting and rehearsal attendance, and writing the play’s program. I also write faculty, alumni and student profiles and articles for the college’s online calendar about upcoming events on campus.

 

Blog Entry:
I am grateful for the opportunity to intern for Public Affairs because I enjoy writing and have gained experience which has greatly improved my writing skills. I work on multiple writing pieces such as student and alumni profiles and announcements of upcoming campus events.

 

My major in Organizational Communication has given me the skills to apply what I have learned in my writing classes to my professional work. I edit the online faculty, alumni and student profiles to make them clearer and more concise. I have also learned valuable interviewing techniques through the online profiles. Contacting and interviewing faculty and students for their profiles has greatly improved my communication skill set.

 

My main project is producing the program for the college’s spring production, “Children of Eden.” This involves attending meetings which allow me to view the internal communication involved in producing work within the department. I now understand the value of creating a timeline to have the final project completed on schedule.

 

My internship has been very beneficial to my professional career track. By providing valuable writing samples for my portfolio and using the essential skills needed for writing professionally, my internship has increased my competitiveness in the job market.
