Interning in the Assumption College Human Resources Department

Name: Jennifer DiMilla
Hometown: Millis, MA
Major: Psychology
Minor: Management
Internship Sponsor: Human Resources Department, Assumption College

Primary Responsibilities:
As an intern in the Human Resources Department, my primary responsibilities include: analyzing job grades and wage compressions, creating surveys of training needs and proposals for the college, auditing sexual harassment training and personnel who need to complete the updated version, observing the operation of programs such an Enwisen and Novas, and compiling all college policies and procedures into one working manual.

Blog Entry:
Having the opportunity to intern in the Human Resources Department has been a valuable experience and has given me insight into this specialization. I have been able to apply concepts about sexual harassment that I learned in my Human Resources Management class to the tasks of auditing sexual harassment training materials.

One of my largest projects was creating a PowerPoint presentation for the students on campus who contribute to the “voice views” on the homepage. By educating students on how important it is to be careful about the content that they post online, I was able to make students aware of the potential power of online harassment.

Another project I had the chance to work on was revising performance evaluation forms. I researched the process that other colleges use in addressing performance evaluation. After doing some work online and reevaluating the current forms, I was able to make some adjustments. It was really great to see how all my ideas came together and I learned a lot about successful competencies in job categories.

Having the chance to intern is really going to help me in the long run because I hope to one day have a career in Human Resources.
