Editing a video for the Office of Public Affairs
Name: Alex Papastratis
Hometown: Branford, CT
Major: Organizational Communications
Expected Year of Graduation: 2010
Internship Sponsor: Office of Public Affairs at Assumption College
As an intern in the Public Affairs Office, my responsibilities include: filming and editing short films for admissions and campus events; writing press releases, public service announcements, student profiles for the college website; and evaluating and updating the college Facebook page.
My internship at the Public Affairs Office has allowed me to use the knowledge and skills I’ve learned in my classes in a real-world working environment.
As an Organizational Communications major, the courses I have taken in business writing have given me great preparation for the articles and press releases I write on a daily basis. Classes like Strategic Managerial Communication have given me the verbal proficiency to speak effectively with members of the media and high level administrators at the college.
Working in the Public Affairs Office, I have had the opportunity to explore my passion for film by working on several short films such as a video featuring students and faculty about the top ten reasons to apply to Assumption. I’ve also done filming and editing of campus events for the website.
Interning has given me a taste of what it is like to work in a real organization and to find out what my preferences are for managerial style and organizational structure. This experience has made the concepts I’ve learned in the classroom seem so much more relevant, clear, and important.
