Interning with the Worcester Sharks.
Name: Matthew Flynn
Hometown: Falmouth, MA
Minor: Sports Management
Internship Sponsor: The Worcester Sharks (AHL)
As a Community Development and Operations Intern, my primary responsibilities are to:
- Propose and develop community events
- Assist the Operations Department with scouts and players
- Update donation offerings on Excel
- Work at Worcester Sharks games
The Worcester Sharks are a hockey organization that is affiliated with the American Hockey League; they are located in the DCU Center in downtown Worcester. Every employee, from hockey player to office worker, works as a team member to create a fun and enjoyable environment at every game. Our goal is to create a positive impact on our patrons – the Worcester community.
I’m responsible for events, such as “Reading is Cool” and Sharks Street Bridge” that get youth involved with education and sports. I also work with the local community on donations and coordinating events to spread the Worcester Sharks’ name.
I enjoy being involved with the process of the Worcester Sharks giving back to the community. As I go around the community with players and the Sharks’ mascot to give away donations to upcoming games, I’ve learned that it’s a group effort. The Sharks’ entire staff is dedicated to creating excellence.
