Interning with the Office of Student Affairs at Assumption College.
Name: Patrick Giroux
Home Town: Wilmington, MA
Major: Organizational Communication
Internship Sponsor: Office of Student Affairs, Assumption College
As the Brand Communication and Marketing Intern, my primary responsibilities include:
- Serve on an ad-hoc committee with students, faculty, and staff to promote an understanding and awareness about the Assumption history and identity
- Work with a graphic design intern to create promotional materials and creative ways to advertise the history and identity of the College
- Research ways to engage students in understanding the five guiding principles of the College
- Meet weekly with the Dean of Students and the Vice President for Student Affairs to monitor progress and discuss creative strategies
Assumption College’s Office of Student Affairs provides students with the opportunity to participate in a high quality co-curricular life that supports Assumption’s academic mission. This office oversees many departments on campus, including: The Office of Student Activities, Athletics, Residential Life, Community Volunteer Services, as well as Student Conduct.
I have the unique opportunity to create a new approach to promote the five principles of student engagement to current and prospective students. These five principles are: Community, Contemplation, Longing for God, Mission to Serve, and Vocation.
Through this internship, I am utilizing my marketing, organization, and leadership skills. I am one of the few students that get to serve on this committee and take part of this unique internship. I was given a strategic assignment, and it is up to me to be proactive and create strategies and solutions to generate student awareness and engagement for the brand.
The graphic design intern and I collaborate ideas and share an office space to make our ideas a reality. I am responsible to reaching out to various academic and student affair offices to gauge a sense of how they utilize the student engagement principles on a daily basis. This valuable experience is helping me become more independent, and perfect my organizational and communication skills.
