In July 2013, Campus Ministry is offering an outstanding opportunity for a group of students to participate in an international service trip prior to attending World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. For the week leading up to World Youth Day, a contingent of Assumption students will travel to Eugenopolis, an Assumption Religious Community and minor seminary that is no longer in use in Brazil. While at Eugenopolis, students will work with 150 other volunteers from Assumption communities around the world. The group will repair the property so that it can be used as a resource for 40 local parishes and local children with special needs. This trip continues the Campus Ministry tradition of offering service learning trips, such as SEND and the Mexico Mission, but adds the extra component of working with the global Assumption community. In each of the past two years, Assumption students have volunteered more than 120,000 hours of community service, and the College has been named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. By volunteering in the community, students help the needy while learning much – by having new experiences, learning about themselves and others, and gaining valuable leadership experience. The Assumption Fund plays an important role in providing students with volunteer opportunities by helping to fund for the Reach Out Center and Campus Ministry, the two main on campus resources for community service opportunities.
