Hagan Campus Center
Assumption College
Welcome Assumption Prep School alumni and friends
This year the Class of 1962 will celebrate its 50th Reunion. A special thank you to classmates Moe Boisvert AP’62 and Ken Moynihan AP’62 who continue to serve as co-chairs of the annual Prep Reunion. Especially significant this year is the exciting news that the Prep Chapel windows have finally arrived on the Salisbury Street campus. There will be a Dedication Ceremony on Friday, April 27…we hope you will join us!
Below is a letter from President Cesareo which you all should have received this past January:
Since my arrival as President of Assumption College in 2007, many alumni of Assumption Prep indicated their hope that the windows from the Prep chapel would find a home on the campus of the College. During the last four and a half years, there have been on-going discussions between myself and the President of Quinsigamond Community College regarding the return of the windows. I am happy to inform you that in mid-December, the windows from the Assumption Prep Chapel were delivered to Assumption College.
The return of the windows was just the first phase in their restoration. In the months ahead, we will need to assess the condition of the windows, reconstruct the windows which were dismantled when they were removed from Quinsigamond Community College, and finally place them in various locations across campus, including the new Campus Ministry Center which will be completed this semester. This restoration project will require that we raise appropriate funding to expedite this process so that the windows can be displayed as quickly as possible. To that end, we will be launching a “Restore the Prep Windows” fundraising effort, which will provide the alumni of the Prep, as well as friends of the College, an opportunity to contribute toward the restoration of the windows. A committee to assist with this fundraiser is being established. If you are interested in serving on this committee or assisting the committee, please contact Diane Laska-Nixon in the Alumni office at 508-767-7239 or dlaska@assumption.edu.
The fundraising effort will offer various levels of support for your consideration. In addition to individual support, classes may wish to make a class gift for the restoration of a particular window. There will also be opportunities for memorial gifts in remembrance of a classmate, an Assumptionist who served at the Prep, a faculty member, or a family member. Details on giving will be sent to you in a few weeks.
Restoring the Prep Chapel windows on the campus of the College will connect the College to its historical roots. More importantly, the windows will be a daily visible reminder of the on-going legacy and heritage of the Prep’s values and educational philosophy rooted in the Augustinian tradition of the Assumptionists which continue to animate the mission of Assumption College. Prep alumni have been generous in the past, as was the case with the renovation of the Prep auditorium in the Kennedy Building several years ago. I am hopeful that this project, which actually brings tangible works of sacred art from the original site of the Prep to the campus, will be of interest to you and all of the alumni of Assumption Prep. I look forward to celebrating with you the installation and unveiling of the windows in the months ahead.
With my gratitude for all you have done in the past and my sincerest best wishes for a New Year filled with many blessings.
Sincerely,
Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D.
President

| The Assumption Prep Auditorium was dedicated during Prep Reunion Weekend in September 2006. Peter Deckers, M.D. AP'58 and Charlie Bibaud AP'51 co-chaired the Prep Auditorium campaign, which raised nearly $500,000 to construct the technology-rich Prep Auditorium in Kennedy Memorial Hall. The multi-media classroom is equipped with state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment and adorned with six large photos from the Prep School and a memorabilia display case adjacent to its entrance. |
