New Minor

            Information Technology

Changes in the Existing Majors

Theology has discontinued requiring THE 400 The Nature of Theology as an upper-level requirement in the major.  Majors will instead be required to take a new gateway course, THE 275 Approaches in Theology.

Philosophy has discontinued requiring PHI 410 Philosophy Seminar, and has specified more particularly its other requirements:

PHI 100 Introduction to Philosophy
PHI 202 Ethics
PHI 340 Metaphysics
One course in the philosophy of each of the following eras: ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary
Two upper-level courses numbered 300 or 400 from among the department’s offerings

The Minor in Philosophy is similarly revised:

PHI 100 Introduction to Philosophy
One 200-level course
Two courses in the philosophy of the following eras: ancient, medieval, modern, and contemporary.
Two other courses from among departmental offerings

Sociology has responded to recommendations emerging from its Program Review, and the following changes to its major have been approved: to consolidate its current two theory courses into one, to consolidate its current two methods courses into one, and to require two more major electives from among four (not five) categories of courses: Institutions and Community, Social Inequality, Deviance, Social Change.

History requires a seminar (HIS393) and a pro-seminar pairing in its major. The pro-seminar will now always be marked HIS391.  So register history majors completing this pairing for HIS393 and HIS391 in the same semester.

New Policies

If a student hasn’t declared a major by October of their junior year (fifth semester) they will not be permitted to register for spring junior year (sixth semester) courses.  Department chairs support this new policy.  It will give them accurate counts in their major as they estimate future course enrollments.
